SAN JOSE STATE:
What’s really good HHC? SJSU HHC is helping out the community of San Jose by dedicating 3.25 hours a week to mentoring students at a local middle school. We have 6 members of HHC doing this so we are going to try to throw some hip-hop events at their school and kick some knowledge to youngstaz. We also planning for our next events, which is probably going to be Elementations, or Distortion 2 Static, which is a hip-hop show that airs on the WB. Everything is still in the works. We’re also trying to get some new t-shirt designs for our club and we want to get a banner to promote our club at events that we throw. Aite folks take care, one.

A CALL FOR HELP:
A couple of members from the Urban Art in Action Movement recently traveled to Porto Alegre, Brasil for the 5th annual World Social Forum and the 2nd annual Hip Hop City.

This was a place for people from around the word to come together and discuss social justice work and Hip Hop Culture as a movement. It was great to see the number of people that attended and make some very solid connections out there.

Unfortunately, our funding for this trip was cut. The reason is that a main funder of ours decided to donate to the recent Tsunami disaster.

We applaud the decision made, but we are now in debt for the trip at about $4000. So – we are asking our friends, family, crew, and people to help fundraise the money for the trip. Any money donated will be tax-exempt through the Southwest Youth Collaborative (a non-profit organization). Being able to raise money for this trip will insure more important trips for more young people from our community who would not usually have these opportunities.

Please contact Asad – asad@hiphopcongress.com or 773.474.0375 with further questions.

UC IRVINE:
UCI has been making steady progress with the film festival. We’re working out the details right now, and should having everything set by the end of this week. The next step is promotion- we are going to hit our campus HARD with fliers, posters, and word of mouth until the date of the screenings.

In the next few weeks, we’re looking forward to the next southern California chapterhead meet-up, which is now going to be a monthly staple. We have several ideas that we’re collaborating on, all of which should come to fruition in the next few months.
