HIP HOP CAUCUS:
The time is right. The moment is now. The Hip Hop Caucus has just launched and is currently solidifying support from national hip hop and voting orgs. The Hip Hop Congress is involved on the ground floor on this initiative. Reverend Yearwood of the Hiphop Summit Action Network and Citizen Change is leading the charge. Stay tuned. GRINNELL:
The Brother Ali and Treologic Party this Saturday was off the hook. They performed for a full house of Grinnell students swaying their arms and nodding their heads to the beat. We have tons planned for April including Hip-Hop Poet Kevin Koval and Chicago Beatbox.
Over the weekend the Grinnell College community was confronted with a very blatant act of hate when students found a number of swastikas defacing school walls, bathrooms, and posters. The entire campus community including active members of Hip-Hop are voicing their concerns and their discontent with this very disturbing occurence. Please send this as our update for the week to create more awareness of the rising anti-Semitism and hatred that is affecting OUR college campuses. This is a very REAL issue that is happening all over the world. Tomorrow there will be an article in the Des Moines Register, and the local newspaper in Grinnell also plans on doing an article. The campus also plans on holding a march and rally within the next couple of days. There is much more that needs to be done. I would love to work with other hip-hop chapters that would be interested in raising awareness over these issues. It would mean sooo much to me if you would send this.
Thank you,
Elena Rubin- Communities Chair and a very Proud Filipino American Jew

UC IRVINE:
Last week, UCI and CSUF chapters held a co-field trip to the KRS ONE show at House of Blues Anaheim. A promoter contacted the Fullerton head and dropped them 33 free tickets to the show, so we decided to roll thick. UCI enjoyed getting down with our brethren that night- many of us had never witnessed the Blastmaster live on stage and were greatly impressed by his energy and control of the crowd. HHC unite!
UC Irvine will be holding its long awaited Hip Hop film festival, featuring a performance by Rahman Jamaal. To view the flier, check out http://www.angelfire.com/ill/turntablist/filmfestival.htm.
For those that don’t know- Hip Hop Congress is on myspace.com. Just search for group- “hip hop congress” and add yourself. It’s a great way to keep in touch with members from across the globe.
peace,
Jeremy
CAL STATE FULLERTON:
What’s up, Congress? We now run meetings every Tuesday at 7pm in KHS-174 and we just finished another successful meeting where we discussed the power of the spoken word and an emcee/orator/spoken word artists’ influence on social commentaries. We also had a Hip Hop Congress Field Trip last Thursday, with local chapter: UCI, to the KRS-One show at the House of Blues Anaheim, courtesy of HOB promoter Andy Roe (whose wife just had a baby!) We are also going to have a second field trip on Wednesday to UCI HHC’s Hip Hop Film Festival. Informal gatherings this week will be on campus at the Daedulus/Busdriver show (Wed, March 9th) and Audio-Intifada with Def Poet Mark Gonzalez (Thu, March 10th).

HIP HOP CONGRESS RADIO:
We now have Wally Sparx reppin UCI HHC as our resident DJ. You can listen to us live every Tuesday from 9-10p (PST) on http://www.titanradio.org. In the next following weeks, we have a couple of local acts coming through the studio for an interview and to drop their recent material. Plus we’ve been receiving media via mail from emcees/groups, specifically HHC-affiliated artists, that want to get themselves heard. If you also want to send us your music, please email us at: csufhiphopcongress@gmail.com.
INDIANA UNIVERSITY:
Back into the thick of things the IU chapter is now official campus famous with promoters, administrators, and artists have all come forward to give props to the Congress and to request the services of our members. Congress DJs are tearin up the clubs, the IU Breakers have been spotted at various parties and performances, and soon we will have all our videos/pictures posted on the net for bandwidth consumption!
We are layin low in March to gear up for a busy April as we have teamed up with Jen Gubitz (the hottest of the Gub group) to have a movie screening, also Snacky Chan from Boston and Agile One from St. Louis will be coming to talk about the Asian influence in Hip Hop! Theres more up the IU sleeve, but as Ron said the NCAA will definitely be takin a chunk of our time.
Peace
Aaron
OHIO UNIVERSITY:
The last few weeks of our quarter we have been focusing on awareness week and fundraising. We have assigned members of the congress to focus on certain events for hiphop week so that it will be less chaotic. We received 1,000$ from the University to bring Rosa Clemente down as a speaker, but that was a little shy of what we needed so we are trying to come up with some inventive fundraisers. We have also planned a block party for May 22nd and we will be having an elements workshop for Alexander Middle School on May 13th.
Peace,
Tommy
USC:
What up from Hip Hop Congress! We’ll be having the usual weekly meeting in Taper Hall on Wednesday night. We’ll be talking hip-hop, listening to some music and doing the usual cypher. We’ve also got “The Roots Present” on DVD, a 90 performance of The Legendary Roots Crew from their summer 2004 show in NYC. We’ll be watching that. Due to Spring Break coming up here at ‘SC, this Friday there will be no cypher outside of Tommy Trojan. HHC will also be discussing “Rev. Al Sharpton Calls On FCC For Action After Violent Incidents Involving Radio” By Nolan Strong, an article that appeared on Allhiphop.com. See you’all on the other side of Spring Break. Reporting in two weeks…stay up…holla
VASHON:
This week is all about our album. All of the rappers in the Vashon chapter have picked beats. We are getting ready for the studio. We have plenty of the hottest beats, with hard rappers. St. Louis can expect a hot album from the Vashon chapter. You should all do the same.
Reko
Happy Birthday to my mom. Give her big ups at mommaG@hiphopcongress.com. Without her, what would you read on Wednesdays?
Have a good weekend. Go Hoosiers!
Peace and Love,

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson
