Weekly Update o5.12.o5
CONFERENCE IN CHICAGO:
So we know you are dying to get to the 4th Annual Conference in Chicago this year. The planners are working really hard to make this the best one yet. And no doubt it will be. Many of you have asked for information about hotels, and the Hip Hop Congress plans on taking over a hostel downtown.
HOTEL INFO:
That’s right people, it’s just over a month away! We’ve booked 80 spaces at the Youth Hostel in Chicago. We’ve chosen to do this for a variety of reasons, including location, price and the fact that EVERY other hotel in the city is booked. If we get a good number to stay at the hostel we can take over a whole floor, which will be ridiculous.
The hostel is in the center of town, it’s clean and its nice. Jordan is going to be getting at every chapter to make sure everyone is accounted for as far as coming to the conference, hopefully in the next two weeks we’ll know how many spaces at the hostel we’ll need. It’s 30 bucks a night per person. We’re trying to work out a cheaper rate but for now that’s what it’s at.

UC IRVINE:
Last week, a number of us went to support CSUF’s first event- Get Up 2 Get Down. The event was very successful, and we’re confident that our new SoCal chapter will continue to grow and gain support on their campus as we move towards next year.
UCI is busy getting together the necessary arrangements for conference. Last week, we managed to book flights for 6 members, and we have a few more who are still in the process of making arrangements.
In the next couple of weeks, we will be going through the funding process in hopes of acquiring some school funds for next year. Last year, we were fortunate enough to receive a decent chunk of money that allowed us to make some big moves during the school year. Other chapters – you should definitely check to see how your club can get funding – you can do a whole lot more once you have monetary backing.
peace,
Jeremy
SAN JOSE STATE:
What’s crackin Congress? yo we jus did it Godzilla style out here this last week. We had our official Hip-Hop Congress Mixtape CD Volume #1 come out titled “Expression 4 Relief” and we got our new t-shirts which look hella dope designed by Cashmere from 120 crew. If any of you chapters wanna cop one of our shirts or a CD which all the funds of the CD will be going to the Tsunami Relief holla at Wes at raekwondahchef@yahoo.com. We sellin the T-shirts for $10 and the CD for $5. We even got urs truly HHC founder Shamako Noble on a track.
We also got it crackin last wednesday with us having an open mic which attracted quite a few people and opened up the floor for people to spit sum lines at the audience.
Following the open mic we took over Johnny V’s bar in downtown San Jo’ which we called “Hostile Takeover” where Shamako performed live and we had Tracy Cruz with Smooth Sessions, and Noahdeeakili.
On Thursday at our meeting we elected new officers and set up our 2nd generation of HHC. SJSU’s HHC is growing like crazy, which is hella dope, it’s good to see the hard work finally paying off. This year’s about to wrap up this Thursday at our last meeting which will be a potluck and a look back at everything we did this year. Hope all ya’ll chapters did it godzilla and put it down at ur skools and can’t wait to meet all ya’ll from all over the U.S. in Chi-Town. Til next year payce out!

BABIES, CAL STATE LA:
Life has been hectic lately as I have just received my new son into the world on April 22, 2005. The result of this beautiful chaos is that my life has constricted down to being about my fambam, work and school. This is my last quarter as I will be graduating in June. I have not focused on events this quarter but instead am working on strengthening the crew of folks I plan to pass this great organization on to next year. We are in the midst of raising the remaining funds needed to make it out to the conference. If I can’t raise the money, I can’t make it, but some of the support orgs and programs I have relationships with are probably going to be able to fund the travel of a few of my incoming board members. We’ll see how things go. Madd hectic, but still doin my thang.
Peace and blessings to you all. I hope this message finds you all in good times.
