USC:
What up?! Six weeks into the semester and four emails later…brought to you by the good folks at Hip-Hop Congress here at the University of Southern California. I know everyone is steadily preparing for midterms. If not, you’re already in the thick of things. Last week’s meeting at Tommy’s Place featuring battle emcee extraordinaire and Project Blowed and J.U.I.C.E. affiliate NoCanDo was off the hook – a mad crazy experience for all those that stopped by. Big ups! There is no meeting this week…but details to come in the next email about next week’s meeting. This week, HHC members will also get a chance to read an article that appeared on www.allhiphop.com entitled “Russell Simmons, Rev. Run Talk VH1 Hip-Hop Honors” By EbenGregory and Nolan Strong. Till the next update. Holla back. Respect. HHC.

CAL STATE FULLERTON:
Hello. We just finished our second meeting where we began our semester-long exploration of the History of Hiphop, starting with the four elements and how each got started. Next week (Tuesday, October 4, 2005 @ 7pm in KHS-174), we will have special guest: DJ Mark Luv of the Universal Zulu Nation to school us on all things Hiphop. We’re gonna have us a grand ol’ time. – Trish (Co-chair)

Weekly Update o9.21.o5

HHC AND HHA LINK UP:
The Hip Hop Congress and the Hip-Hop Association are presently creating a collection that will include lesson plans, curricula, and other teaching tools from educators in the U.S. and abroad. This collection will be made available to members of the community in the form of an electronic database and printed guidebook.

With over 500 educators between both organizations teaching at various schools, colleges, and universities across the country, this relationship will provide credible opportunities to test, evaluate and present irrefutable data. This data will be used to demonstrate to policymakers, funders and educational institutions the power of utilizing Hip-Hop as an educational tool.

In addition, Hip Hop Congress has joined the Hip-Hop Association’s 2006 H2Ed Summer Academy as a co-sponsor. The academy is a weeklong evaluation program where educators and youth practice a variety of methods to use of Hip-Hop in the classroom.

Weekly Update o9.11.o5

As we continue to remember those we have lost on this day in the past, as well as continue our efforts to aid those in need from recent events, we continue to work, hope, and build with the belief that people will cease hurting each other and make a better future for everyone.

NEW CHAPTER: WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY:
Please join me in welcoming our newest chapter to the HHC family. Andrew Gibbs has been working for months to start a HHC chapter at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. This is our first chapter in Oregon, adding another state to the Hip Hop Congress.

USC:
What up?! This is the second of many emails brought to you by the good folks at Hip-Hop Congress here at the University of Southern California. Thursday night, 7 p.m., at Tommy’s Place, Los Angeles own Cerritos All-Stars we’ll be there. Tommy’s Place is located in the basement of Topping Student Center. So roll out. Or you’ll get left behind. This week we’ll also be discussing an article that appeared on DaveyD.com which was a DJs perspective on the aftermath of events that have taken place in New Orleans. Till the next update. Holla back. Respect. HHC.

OHIO UNIVERSITY:
We haven’t done much yet, since we just got back to school this week. We brought some B-boys and DJ down to the student involvement fair to perform and we ended up getting 53 freshmen to sign up for the Congress! Besides that we have received bad news from the University because they may not allow us to put on our B-boy battle we had planned to put on this quarter because we got an outside sponsor without their permission. So we are meeting with some people this week to hopefully straighten that out.

Peace,
Tommy Boone

WASH U:
HHC is threw a show the 8th including Rhymefest, the dude who co-produced Jesus Walks as well as STL heavyweights Honors English and Rocky Knuckes. Proceeds to benefit the Red Cross. Friday the 9th we hosted a poetry slam with poetry collective Soul Vibe.

More to come
