As we continue to remember those we have lost on this day in the past, as well as continue our efforts to aid those in need from recent events, we continue to work, hope, and build with the belief that people will cease hurting each other and make a better future for everyone.

NEW CHAPTER: WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY:
Please join me in welcoming our newest chapter to the HHC family. Andrew Gibbs has been working for months to start a HHC chapter at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. This is our first chapter in Oregon, adding another state to the Hip Hop Congress.

USC:
What up?! This is the second of many emails brought to you by the good folks at Hip-Hop Congress here at the University of Southern California. Thursday night, 7 p.m., at Tommy’s Place, Los Angeles own Cerritos All-Stars we’ll be there. Tommy’s Place is located in the basement of Topping Student Center. So roll out. Or you’ll get left behind. This week we’ll also be discussing an article that appeared on DaveyD.com which was a DJs perspective on the aftermath of events that have taken place in New Orleans. OHIO UNIVERSITY:
We haven’t done much yet, since we just got back to school this week. We brought some B-boys and DJ down to the student involvement fair to perform and we ended up getting 53 freshmen to sign up for the Congress! Besides that we have received bad news from the University because they may not allow us to put on our B-boy battle we had planned to put on this quarter because we got an outside sponsor without their permission. So we are meeting with some people this week to hopefully straighten that out.

WASH U:
HHC is threw a show the 8th including Rhymefest, the dude who co-produced Jesus Walks as well as STL heavyweights Honors English and Rocky Knuckes. Proceeds to benefit the Red Cross. Friday the 9th we hosted a poetry slam with poetry collective Soul Vibe.

LORAS:
The officers have come together a few times this year to get the ball rolling. We had our first full meeting this week and had a positive outcome. We plan on having house parties, open mic nights, a few fundraisers and community service events to help with hurricane Katrina relief. This week we have our campus fest which is where we get most of our new members and people can get to see what our hip-hop congress chapter is all about. This year we also hope to bring more of the other schools in town together and plan something big. This Saturday another Clarke college in Dubuque is hosting a Caribbean jam which we plan on attending.

SAN JOSE STATE:
What’s crackin folks? We chillin out here in the yay area. We gettin into our 3rd week of skool and we’re trying to get our meetings going hopefully this next week. We had mad weoplez interested in our group during the student organization fair and we bout to hit them up on our yahoo groups. Other then that we jus tryin to organize for this semester. aite ya’ll til next week payce.

INDIANA UNIVERSITY:
What up Congress!
This is the first national update of the year for the IU Chapter. We’ve been busy recruiting, spreading the word, and establishing a Board of Directors.

So what’s good with the IU chapter I hear you asking?
– We have established a board of directors this year including Calvin Craig as Chair of Technology, Tim Zwada as Chair of Advertising/Membership Director, Ben van Dyk as Treasurer, Nihn Huang as Head of IU Bboys, and myself as Chapter Head!

– In the past two weeks we have expanded the mailing list from 425 to 495!

– This Tuesday we had our Fall Callout Meeting and 8 people showed up and a bunch more wanted to, but couldn’t make it. This is really solid. If we get that as our regular attendance that will be double what our regular attendance was in the past.

– We have three spoken word events planned for the upcoming months, each with a special guest. The first one will feature Queen Sheeba, the second, Versiz, and the final one, Third Eye Open.

– This Saturday, Congress is co-sponsoring B-town Active, a premiere festival to celebrate and educate activism and independent media in Bloomington.

– In the works: Btown Cypher, Congress Monthly of some sort (likely a movie screening), IU Chapter Webpage and Congress for Katrina campaign.

– Last, but not least, Congress has annexed the formerly independent IU Breakdancing Club to encourage collaboration and communication between elements and viewpoints.
