Weekly Update 11.o9.o5
TEXAS STATE:
Salutations from the Congress at Texas State University- San Marcos! As usual, things are going great with our plans. Right now our main focus is on our next freestyle battle which will take place on December 3 here in San Marcos at Gordo’s Bar. The battle will be called The Mike Before Xmas: All I want for Xmas is a real crunk beat!
There is a Student Organizations Coucil meeting on November 8. The University requires a representative from every organization to attend to touch base with the latest updates and policies.
November 19 is another Bobcat Day for potential students here on campus. We’ll have another booth set up with information and an email sign up sheet for the high school students.
SAN JOSE STATE:
What’s really good? We’ve just been chillin out here keepin thangs movin. We co-sponsored Students for Justice another club on campus by having some of our peops kick some poetry and spoken word at their rally for education to support the vote no on prop 73-76, so Arnold doesn’t try to cut our school’s funding even more. We also got peops workin on our mixtape which is coming soon. Other then that we’ve been mentoring kids at Burnett Academy and postin up. Holla at you weoples next week. one.
WILLAMETTE:
We did our big publicity stunt for the Awareness Festival this Friday.
We took the campus student art wall, and put down a little HHC graffiti art, in the dark of night this morning. There was a whole statement made by doing this, as we did not ask permission to paint the wall, but when does any real Graf artist have permission? It is an attempt to get in the school paper, this Wednesday, so we can get some plugs for the show. Our adviser Dr. Thabiti Lewis and the Campus Chair released a statement today explaining and defending the work, it was a culture statement. Also to let y’all know we did this shit at 2:30am,in the rain, and the whole crew came out. See attached!
The Awareness show is this Friday! Same stuff going down at this as I have been mentioning for the past few weeks. It does seem that the real battle that is going to go down will be between b-boys, we have some crews rollin out to represent! Opio Sokoni, and his film “Small City Big Hip Hop” Will kick off the event. Yes that is the same Opio
that was on the “O’Reilly Factor” last week, just pissin off White Conservative America. HA!
Peace for now!

CAL STATE LA:
This is Laquan aka LDC and this is my report on how our event at CSULA called, Bring Your Skills: “Food For The Soul†went.
Before the event even happen, I met one of our new Hiphop Congress members and his name is Antonio. Antonio is a hiphop music producer, and he was very energetic and eager to be apart of a great organization like ours. But let me get back to the event, now as we were setting up for this event…I got mad because I did not have my stages that I requested…eventually the stages came because I ask my friend Roberto (who is a RA in the housing area to unlock them for me)…Our event was in the Phase 2 Housing Lounge, and after set-up I went to take care of personal duties since the DJ and the AV technician came there and had some music on for the people who were coming. After I got back from taking care of personal business, I got into a nice fifthteen sipher with my boys from this group called Q-York who are a up and coming hiphop group who have great talents in rapping, graphic designing, and other music related talents.
Then the show started, we had a great collection of poets, emcee’s, and a great audience. We had people to sign in into the event if they wanted to be apart of the Hiphop congress or know about our events and also to sign in and let us know that they came. We also had a great turnout with all the people who came to the event, we had about 80 to 100 people come our event. The event had great and talented and energetic artist’s who really put it down, but I felt “my pops†darkside and a few others really put it down. I got some time to do my thing with my other HHC family from USC when they ask me to beatbox on stage with them. I know I invited other artist and other Cali congress’s but they could not make because of family problems and other issues that came up. But overall, the event went well and our next Bring Your Skills will next quarter with our asian’s in hiphop and our big Ol’ School HipHop/R&B party aka the 80’s party…which will go down in March…
