MINNESOTA SUMMIT:
UPDATE: Amir Sulaiman (www.amirsulaiman.com), featured on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam and Host of last year’s “Breed Love Tour” will also be appearing.

The Hip Hop Congress will host its First Ever Minnesota Summit: “Politics, Globalization and the Hip Hop Generation” from Friday, February 17th through Sunday February 19th, 2006.

Activities will feature a major concert featuring renowned Hip Hop artists and will include workshops, panels and discussion on prominent domestic and world issues related to Hip Hop, Race, Politics, HIV/AIDS and Globalization. Each will feature prominent artists including, Proof from the World-famous group D12, Hip Hop Activists M-1 of Dead Prez, The Bedouin and many more. There will also be workshops teaching Graffiti Art, Breakdancing, DJ’ing, and MC’ing. Youth organizing will be facilitated by People Escaping Poverty Project (P.E.P.P.) of Moorhead.

OHIO UNIVERSITY:
Las Thursday we made some good fundraising money by selling grilled cheese sandwiches to students coming out of the bars. Two week we have a busy week with a elementary school elements workshop on the 14th, a Hip Hop in politics seminar with the NAACP on the 15th, seminar with Bakari Kitwana (Why White Kids Love Hip Hop) on the 16th, on the 17th we are helping another organization put on a Hip Hop showcase for local artists, and Rahzel is performing on the 18th. UC IRVINE:
What the hell is up everybody?! This quarter is kicking it off fast and we’re all excited for whats in store. First meeting we held an open discussion on recent events in hip hop, (when Bill O’Reilly had Cam’ron as a guest to discuss if ‘Gansta rap is hurting America’s children’ in the inner cities, and the new Rolling Stones’ cover that has Kanye West sporting a crown of thorns,) both topics sparked a pretty hot discussion and all of the first timers joined in too.

For our event at the end of the quarter, UCI is bringing out KRS-ONE for a lecture on the History of Hip Hop. This lecture will be held on campus in HIB 100 on February 22nd, and we’re also working on featuring more hip hop elders (Mark Luv and more) to have a panel for a full-on open forum on the deeper aspects of hip hop. If anyone in Southern Cali can make it, come out!

We’ve also been getting mad props from the administration and student government at UCI with regards to our last event (One Be Lo, Cunninglynguists) and they are asking if we need any help for any upcoming events, so I’m very optimistic that our chapter will be capable of much more in the future. We also just recently had our first Southern California regional board meeting that brought out six chapters (representation from UCI, USC, UCR, CSULA, CSUF, SDSU, National) and this council will be working together to hit So-Cal with a larger dose of Hip Hop Congress.

TEXAS STATE:
this week the congress has been out promoting our organization in the quad. everything went good with recruiting new members.

on monday the congress also met up with Student Association of Campus Activities to propose getting together to do a “hip hop week”, we will meet again next week for better details. we plan on having a huge show for the student body along with graffiti shows.

SAN JOSE STATE:
What it do Congress? Kicked off our first meeting on Tuesday and had a good turnout from everyone. We had a few new faces that weren’t able to make our meetings for the past few semesters come thru so that’s always good that they still show there support. We discussed what we are trying to do for the semester ahead and how we can grow even stronger with tabling and promoting the club. Other then that everyone was jus choppin it up and seeing how everyone’z winter break was. Aite ya’ll til next week. One.

WILLAMETTE:
Weekly update the abbreviated version: We are rolling strong this semester. We have booked the Qn5 tour for April 23rd to headup the main portion of the entertainment for the “Elements Show”. It looks like we might get Redbull on line and a local radio KBOO.

We are rolling down to Eugene (UofO) to kickit with some serious headz there. We are trying to make some connections so that our shows are on point.

As for other events this semester, Spoken Word night in the Bisto, another big time dance party, and begin our outreach at North Salem HS and work on the education initiative.

We are also selling sweatshirts like crazy, if y’all want one holla at me!

This event is a combination of art and music. Each event we shine light on a local artist. The featured artist for this event is Chris Arnold he will be showing his original paintings. Our DJ’s will be spinning many genres of music that you don’t hear on the radio like; SOUL JAZZ, ACID JAZZ, FUNK, NEO SOUL, UNDERGROUND HIP HOP, ELECTRONICA, AFRO BEAT, SAMBA FUNK, and anything else our featured DJ’s Can pull out of their crates. We also hope to have a few other Vendors there selling their unique items.

Our featured Dj’s are Top Speed, F.T.S. , Lou Bey and Metrognome and Maybe one surprise guy
