CAL STATE FULLERTON:
Hello hello everyone! Greetings from Fullerton!
At last week’s meeting we had a sort of heated discussed about KRS-ONE and Adisa’s conflict at Stanford and got some pretty good responses from members about hip hop. We briefly discussed Three 6 Mafia at the Academy Awards and the current status of our chapter. We came up with more fundraising ideas and started ideas for the next event. This past Tuesday, the planning has started for Fullerton’s main jam that is tentatively scheduled for Wedneday and Thursday May 3rd and 4th. This next week is Spring Break for us, so for those of you that will be on Spring Break.. Have a GREAT one! Our next meeting will be on April 4th! See yall then. PEACE.

ARTIST UPDATES:
If you would like to be included, please email dlabrie@hiphopcongress.com
Whuttup yall, I apologize for the Bay centric updates but there’s 2 reasons why. I haven’t got any new updates from any of the artists outside the bay, well that’s partly my fault because I haven’t had the chance to reach out as much as I’d like to lately, plus I’m from the bay and we’ve been out the loop for awhile so a couple super updates wont hurt. 2. the 2nd is because I’m just starting and this program is on it’s way to new heights so things take a minute. You all are out hustling 25/8 as I am, so it’s all g. We’ll build on it. Just remember to e-mail me with all your updates, check the updates and frontline messages, and most of all call me, talk to me, and all that and I’ll get all your updates in, and remember it’s only a matter of time before I catch up to you to get the scoop. So let’s race.

Hip Hop Congress/REFUGE involved in 3 community events last week in Bay Area:
3/17: REFUGE/ Our Hyphy students from the Hip Hop afterschool class we teach @ August Boeger Jr. High in East Side San Jose, CA. last Friday 3/17 threw a grande finale show ending our 8 weeks at the school during lunchtime. The show featured a Hip Hop dance presentation by the kids, a beatbox battle between Shamako and star student Ewell, as well as live:performances by students, Automatic from Money Tree Ent. (Shake yo’ helmit), DLabrie, and Bay Area Star from Sic wit it Records (E-40’s label) Nump (I got Grapes). DJ Boy Wonder held down the DJ tables as the students went dumb. I don’t think this “school in the hills†was ready for this at least the staff wasn’t! High light: Nump being confronted by an uninformed teacher right after the mayham “Who r you this is a closed campusâ€!! He handled it well!!
3/17: Later that afternoon we hit “the deep†what you may know as East Oakland. This is in the hyphy shady 80’s by Castlemont High @ new Oakland hot spot Youth Uprising.. From jump the crowd was waiting to see The Jacka (they love my homie in the hood). The youth uprising dancers got it started with some turf dancing, then Rahman introduced himself to Oakland with “Ordinary Neighborhoodâ€. DLabrie and KDoe repped The ALLIANC at their homecoming show w/ “Wus ya Nameâ€, and Azeem held it down with a serious fire accapello. When Jacka arrived it really got live and the crowd went dumb to “Hey girl†and “Girls sayâ€!! We even got a surprise performance by Husalah!! The Mobfigaz is for the youth !! Highlite: Jacka postin’ with the students 2 hours after the show was over.
3/18: Last but not least DEM-One held it down with VISION 20/20, a Hip Hop Education Conference in San Francisco. The conference featured panel discussions with Adisa Banjoko, Sarah Stokes, John Colton, and more. As well as featured performances by Big Murph, Spitta, DLabrie, KDoe, and once again, Bay Area star… The Jacka! The event was filled with community leaders, hip hop artists, and young people. Rising Bay Area magazine, Ruckus, and 106.1 KMEL also showed up to give their support. Highlight: the networking that went on.
