Hip Hop Congress supports S.A.V.O.Y in Oakland & the Bay Area
Hip Hop Congress is in full support of S.A.V.O.Y. (Stop All Violence On Youth). Through the Artists, Educational Entities, Community Centers, Grass Roots Organizations, Youth Programs, Music Industry Contacts, and Music Venues HHC is connected to, we are working collaboratively to address issues of violence, poverty, and injustice. HHC has implemented strong educational initiatives in Oakland, San Francisco, East Palo Alto, San Jose, Sacramento, Fresno, Stockton, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, Chicago, Milwaukee, Atlanta, St. Louis and many other cities Nationally/Internationally. HHC programs manifest in the form of Regional Community/College Chapters that organize Events, Workshops, Festivals, After School Programs, Mentorship Programs, Organizational Advocacy & Consultation Services, Youth Programs, etc!! HHC believes education and opportunities for growth are the key to combating issues that destroy our youth and communities in Inner cities. For the past 30 years Hip Hop Culture has been a major influence on the ears, hearts, and minds of the youth in Urban, Sub-Urban, & Rural Areas World Wide, therefore HHC uses Hip Hop and the Urban Arts as a vehicle to raise awareness and to inspire social change. We have supported S.A.V.O.Y during a recent Public Peace March in Oakland this past July (there have been 40 plus murders since) as well as the Speak Out at the CA State Capitol August 31, 2006. HHC National Board Member/ Actor/Emcee Rahman Jamaal made an appearance at SAVOY’s International Peace day Celebration to speak to students about getting involved and possibly starting HHC chapters at their Schools. HHC has also participated in Meetings with SAVOY at Oakland City Hall concerning the Social Issues in Oakland & and will be following up with Council Members and Other Local Organizations to create a plan of ACTION. On October 28th 2006, HHC Artists KDoe, Bleev, and DLabrie performed and spoke at 2232 MLK for SAVOY’s Make a Difference Day “A Day of Healing†Event, which brought together many youth from Oakland. HHC will continue to support S.A.V.O.Y and other organizations that are dedicated to Education, Equality and Justice!!
“I believe the events SAVOY/HHC are doing, help the youth by hearing what we have to say and giving us education and opportunities that work toward ending violence. I would like to have Hip Hop Congress and SAVOY more involved in our schools and communities. It will make a big impactâ€

NEW CHAPTERS
I would like everyone to welcome two new chapters to the Hip Hop Congress family. The school’s administration has recognized Columbia College in Chicago as a chapter. Currently led by Arkitek, email DjArkitek@tmail.com, I am sure this chapter will add to the great unity the Chicago chapters have. The second chapter is from NIGERIA!!! This chapter is being led by Nnaemeka Amaefule, blak.cuffy@yahoo.com, and is the first chapter in West Africa (or really all of Africa) for Hip Hop Congress. There is already a core of about a dozen active members! Congrats and welcome to both chapters. Hip Hop Congress continues to take over the world.

This is a great way to be represented on the website. In the next couple of weeks, expect some emails/calls. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll just fill in the blanks myself, and trust me, you don’t want that. I appreciate it, y’all.
Peace.

WOMEN’S PROJECT
How goes it, HHC? Hope the New Year’s progressing well for everyone…This is an update on the Women’s Project. Over the next six months, the Women’s Project will be blessed by all the chapters that are able to contribute information on the females involved in Hip Hop in their area. This won’t require any extra research on the chapters’ part – one example is a brainstorm session at one of your meetings with someone taking notes and then emailing in the findings. The exact details on this action will be sent to all the chapterheads within the next two weeks. It will be followed up with phone calls to all the chapterheads in order to check in and personalize/individualize it a bit more. Check ins with the regional directors will be taking place to talk about the artists and happenings in their regions. More on the down low (time permitting), I’m working with Tachelle from Femmixx (check out femmixx.com) to publish a book of letters from females to Hip Hop, continuing to contact females involved in Hip Hop from across the country to be included in the listing (which already includes 35+ members), posting the Women’s Project info (revised mission statement and goals) on my Myspace page (myspace.com/djseriah) and playing with the idea of making a Women’s Project Myspace, and looking at establishing a regular community-based HHC Women’s Project event in the Bay Area, having found someone interested in organizing and coordinating events. And that’s what’s up with the Women’s Project….
