Weekly Update o2.o5.o7
Congrats to the Colts for their Super victory over the Bears. To bad the game wasn’t exciting after half time.
NOTE
All chapterheads should have gotten an email from Sarah Harris regarding the Women’s Project information. Please respond to her asap. If you never got the email, hit Sarah up at sarah@hiphopcongress.com
CHICAGO COMMUNITY
This past weekend, almost 20 HHC Chicago members traveled a couple of hours south to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s campus for their Hip Hop Awareness Week festivities, namely IL Breaks. The event brought in hundreds of people and some of the illest b-boys from across the nation.
This week we are getting ready to travel out to Moorhead, MN for the Hip Hop Congress Summit there (Feb 16th – 18th) and the rest of us are planning on attending the Zulu Nation Annual Event in Seattle, WA.

WASH U
After some struggles with dates and things like that, we have decided to throw a hip hop week to feature Brother Ali, Pslam-One and Upski, in addition to DJ lessons, old school hip hop parties and more to come.
Anyone that has thrown a few of these and would like to give us some tips (Anh) feel free to give input.

WRIGHT COLLEGE
Well for our club its really just been a mission looking for an advisor to sign off on our club. i hope to have that fixed by this week and am already starting to plan events for the semester. Also, went to U of I this weekend for il breaks, talked to other chapter heads and be seeing what collaborations we can do.
peace and respect,

USC
USC is making things happen!
We recently just co-sponsored an event with our Student Body Program Board in which we brought out the world famous Massive Monkees Breaking Crew. The event was an overall success with over 550+ in attendance. This definitely helped USC get put back on the map.
Recent news, HHC USC Chapter just got invited to be interviewed for an event USC is hosting (paying for!!) on Tuesday February 27th, 2007 in the 1000+ capacity Bovard Auditorium. They will be bringing in Los Angeles’ own Ice Cube and Midwest rookie of the year, Lupe Fiasco along with Saul Williams and several other poetry artists to have a roundtable discussion on hip-hop and its influence on culture and the direction of hip-hip in the future. This event is destined to be HUGE!!! More details to come.
WAYNE STATE
Everything in Willamette is pretty chill right now not too much on the HHC side of things. We are finalizing the Black and Brown Unity Tour with panelists M-1, Rosa Clemente, and Dawn Fischer, I am not sure if the rest of the campus is ready for ‘em but I know our chapter cant wait. Besides that we got everyone out fundraising to put on more events for our first event of 2007 at Alvin’s Night Club it was called Hip Hop 101. It was a huge success and we had a packed house. We also had a board meeting on Wednesday to discuss the upcoming 3 months. Our first member meeting will be held Feb 7. We will keep you posted on everything else as well
Thanks

COLUMBIA COLLEGE
The Columbia College Chapter held their first event this past Wednesday which was a major success. Hip Hop heads from all around the city came out and showed support including, Soundtrakk (Production on Lupe Fiasco’s Food and Liquor), Frukwan (Gravediggaz), and 1120 (Production for Mikkey Halsted). Check out the pictures at myspace.com/hhccolumbiachicagochapter. We also held our first meeting this past Thursday, where an at-risk youth, hip hop elements workshop for the Englewood community started being planned for the first week of March. We are also setting up a screening for the Professor Griff video for February 21st. Along with that, our opening celebration is still being planned out for March 16th, where we will have the Zulu Nation, as well as Frukwan from the Gravediggaz, and 1120 all as guests for the evening. The opening will be a night which represents all of the elements and educates its attendants about Hip Hop
Congress. Our next meeting will take place on February 15th.

LORAS COLLGE
We have just started meeting for the semester and have a lot of ideas floating around. We will be practicing for some dances coming up in the future and will put on an open mic night or two this semester, date and times tba. Our biggest project is our breakdancing competition, hopefully with the University fo Dubuque and Clarke College, but located in Dubuque, IA. We are looking at dates in the end of March or early April. The competition would also feature local artists and dance performances.
If anyone is interested in competing, performing, selling merchandise or sponsoring please contact Allison Evans at allison.evans@loras.edu or 608-438-7828. Until next week…Alison

LINK OF THE WEEK: www.ruckus.com
This link will be extremely useful for our college chapter members and maybe a few others. Ruckus.com is a legal MP3 site that usually charges a subscription fee to download unlimited mp3s from their site. However about 10 days ago they switched it up to allow all college students FREE unlimited downloads. (Sorry you have to have a valid .edu email address, but for those out of school I am sure you can find a creative way around this) What this means is that you go the site, sign up for free, they don\’t ask for your credit card, and you can start downloading. This also means the ARTISTS STILL GET PAID. And there are plenty of HHC related artists with music on the site including DJ Crucial, Zion I, Serengeti, The Jacka, and more.
So go check it out and support artists while not touching your wallet at all.
Thats all I got this week. Everything sounds like its goin well for
most chapters and if you all have the time, head up to Moorehead to
kick it with Amer at the Summit!
Peace
Berk
