Kuumba Lynx Performance Ensemble present…~ Word! ~
A fierce Hip-Hop theatre production fusing literary and performance art.
The 2007 Kuumba Lynx Performance Ensemble (KLPE) of ‘WORD!’ chisels a unified voice for the silenced and often misrepresented worlds of Chi-Town youths. ‘Word!’ explores and challenges the influence of contemporary
media as it relates to cultural practices and stereotypes. Intertwining personal narrative and social commentary KLPE presents a montage of shorts, vignettes, and emotional portraits leading to self-discovery, identity and empowerment.

yo the Black and Brown Unity Tour was enlightening to say the least. We didn’t get the attendance I was hoping for, but everyone that did show really enjoyed the discussion. M-1, Rosa Clemente, and Dawn Fischer are all some knowledgeable individuals and if any of ya’ll get the opportunity to bring any of them to your campus to speak do not hesitate, they were worth every penny. Real down to earth as well. -Austin
INDIANA UNIVERSITY
IU Chapter just ended a year and half long Katrina Fundraiser by donating $1000 raised from T-shirt sales to the Hope Crisis Rescue Missions Organization based out of Elkhart, Indiana and stationed in Gulf Port, Mississippi. I went down there to volunteer my Spring Break doing some construction/rebuilding/demolition work. Things are still really messed up down there but everyone I met was in good spirits. -Tim

UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO DENVER
The HHCUCD chapter is currently holding a bboy workshop on the 26th of march for the Denver community. hopefully we can make this a monthly or weekly thing. We are also working on organizing a HipHop Week for April 10th through the 13th.
UC RIVERSIDE
Peace Fam! We feel pretty ashamed this is our first update at U.C Riverside, but we’ve been busy yall! The group is tighter than ever and we have more people stepping up taking responsibility in the club. Early in the fall we threw a really successful lunch-time 2-on-2 bboy competition with ipods as prizes. In the Winter we threw “Spitt’n Fire” with Emanon (aloe blacc & Dj Exile) + Fresh City Crew + Triune. A lot of our crew worked really hard with the Student Center and threw a show with Lupe Fiasco, DJ Low Budget (hollertonix) and DJ Adam-12. We’ve been doing a lot of deejaying for events and different clubs, not to mention our signature Tuesday at lunch jams “Tadow Tuesdays” which have now entered it’s 29th consecutive week. On Monday night we set aside some practice space for our local bboys, and on Tuesday Nights we co-sponsor a weekly elements session at a nearby café
Been working a lot with the rest of So. Cal, always going to each others events and monthly meetings. Got at least 3 known events in the works for the Spring quarter + continuing our ever-so-dope Tadow Tuesdays. See you all at conference! PEACE!

WASH U
Getting things set for our band showcase on April 7th, re-upping with bands, getting sound equipment lined up etc.
I think we are scrapping Upski and taking the money that we have already raised to put it towards other expenses. I have been contacting people to speak about prisons in society, but haven’t had any good responses yet, we’ll see how that goes. The yung-uns are holdin it down though, so we should be good for next year.
Peace
Yoni
LINK OF THE WEEK
http://www.definitive200.com/index.html
A nice list made in reaction to this list by my friend Slick Rubin sums this list right up:
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame created their “Definitive 200 ” top albums of all time.
Let us count the ways this list is ridiculous/prejudiced/ignorant:
1. NO JAMES BROWN ALBUMS
2. Will Smith’s Big Willie Style is two spots ahead of Public Enemy’s “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back”
3. NO JAMES BROWN ALBUMS
4. Of the top 6 rap albums (Marshall Mathers, Chronic, Licensed to Ill, Get Rich or Die Trying, Life after Death, Slim Shady LP), 3 are by either Eminem or the Beastie Boys. No. Comment.
5. Illmatic at #185
6. Country Grammar ahead of Illmatic, Blueprint, Straight Outta Compton, Nation Millions
7. No Ready to Die
8. NO JAMES BROWN ALBUMS
9. Outside of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Prince and Santana, the entire top 25 is…of European origin.
10. Are we really serious here? No James Brown?
11. Two Def Leppard albums and a Linkin Park album in the top 100, and NO GEORGE CLINTON ANYWHERE ON THE LIST.
