Lecture by Dr. Mako Fitts “Is Hip Hop Dead or Alive?â€
Building 8 Mount Constance Room @ 9:00 am
This lecture examines Hip-Hop as culture, artistic expression, and social movement. We will explore the historical evolution of the elements of hip hop through cultural , economic and political contexts. We will uncover the role of Hip-Hop in relationship to consumer cultures, media organizations and cultural production, while investigating the ways that popular media promotes or impedes political action, civic involvement, and movements for social justice.
Workshop by Sean Goode: “Back to the Basicsâ€
Building 8 Mt. Skokomish @ 10:00 am
This workshop will be based on a value driven explanation of Hip-Hop’s history. Participants will also be writing their own rhymes in a group setting.
Dr. Mako Fitts “Where is Hip Hop Going in Seattleâ€

This lecture will give a general overview on where Hip-Hop is happening within the Seattle area. How has Hip-Hop shaped and expanded the culture? Where is Hip-Hop to be found now within Washington?
International Hip Hop Panel with the Zulu Nation
Building 8 Mount Constance Room @ 12:00 pm
Educating the streets with Knowledge, Wisdom, and Understanding this panel will explore how Hip-Hop culture transcends all the boundaries of race, age, beliefs, social status, gender, and locality. Zulu Nation is one of Hip-Hop’s best known organizations started by Afrika Bambaataa. It was constructed to keep those aware and empower communities by uniting the artistic elements of Hip-Hop. Special performances by the Silent Lambs Project!
