8/30 10AM Harriet Island, Minnesota RNC protest
Joint Press Conference: The Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign
and the RNC Welcoming Committee-
Joint press conference with the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights
Campaign and the RNC Welcoming Committee – bringing you solidarity across
difference since wednesday!
Topic: Protesters, Cops, and Violence at the RNC
Despite constant attempts by the government to describe dissent as
dangerous and violent, the police are the most violent faction at protest
events. Though often invisible to middle-America, state sanctioned
violence is a constant reality for the poor and homeless, people of color,
LGBT people and other marginalized communities. Today at a poor people’s
encampment at the State Capital in St. Paul three members of PPEHRC were
assaulted by police, who then denied legal observers and press access to
the scene. Today also marks the one-year anniversary of the 8/31/07
Minneapolis Critical Mass police riot in which peaceful cyclists were
subject to vicious attacks and unlawful arrests. At this press conference
representatives of PPEHRC, the Welcoming Committee, and others active in
resisting the RNC will update the media on violence at the RNC. Please
join us at the flagpole on Harriet Island, 10am Saturday 8/30.
