As usual, our chapters from coast to coast are impacting their campuses, communities and the world through HIP HOP!

Western Mass Hip Hop Congress Chapter: They have been working on finding a place that supports community building via culture and conscious Hip Hop. They finally have a beautiful place that is rehabbing an historic theatre. The Bing Arts Center, right now it is able to fit 200 people but by the time it will hold over 500, with Theatre, Film production, and live performances. Community Against Hate, a member of Hip Hop Congress is right in the center creating a place for the Western Mass Hip Hop Congress Chapter. Attached is a flier of our upcoming March Fundraiser to support a community activist whose home burned down.

They were able to showcase their talents at the event, and perform original pieces with Pat La Rock, (underground conscious hip hop artist) at the Sheridan hotel in Manhattan.

2nd event (will take place in June)
Old Skool Hip Hop Show- they are working on guest appearances by Slick Rick, Africa Bambataa, and hopefully, possibly Method Man, but all artists have not been confirmed. Other artists will include Cornerstone Academy school staff, students, parents and local artists. There are many people from the community getting involved and who are willing to take part and play a major piece in the event. One of them is the founder of Glam Sense, Ms. Williams, who will be helping me with the old school outfits and accessories, also very established and very well-connected.
In the month of March HHC NYC Middle School Chapter will again join forces with Hip Hop Saves Lives in efforts to Erridicate Poverty across the world, They will be producing tracks to all artists in the middle school and the NYC community each day. This music will be marketed and sold in different countries and states, but will not be used for individually promoting the artist for record sales.
Morning Announcements- They were able to get the principal to agree to having the announcements every morning between 9 and 9:30. The NYC middle school chapter artists and members give the daily announcements, updates and quotes of the day…This month we celebrated Black History Month by highlighting great black leaders and using their quotes as sort of a “mental nourishment,” before they start their day. These announcements are [posted on our school website, and reiterated to the community in the Bronx where the school is located. The childrens voices are heard through their community in a positive light and this also strengthens their confidence building.
Lastly- they have built alot of strong connections in the last couple of months with local artists from 3 bouroughs and Channel 12 News in the Bronx, and have connected with a college radio station in Penn State and looking to hook up with more!

Hip Hop Explosion is a part of HHC’s 7th Annual Hip Hop Appreciation Month. Every February the Hip Hop Congress at UCLA, a series of USAC’s Cultural Affairs Commission, hosts Hip Hop Appreciation Month (HHAM). HHAM is an annual tradition that focuses on increasing the exposure and influence of the hip hop culture on campus through an array of events highlighting the many aspects of hip hop. HHAM works to prove that there is more to hip hop than often meets the eye – that hip hop is multifacted, intellectual, creative, and has a history of inspiring social activism and empowerment.
