JAY ELECTRONICA HEADLINES THE HIP HOP CONGRESS NATIONAL CONFERENCE IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE U.S. SOCIAL FORUM & ALLIED MEDIA CONFERENCE IN DETROIT, MI FROM JUNE 26-28.
Hip Hop Congress (www.hiphopcongress.com) will host its 9th Annual National Conference sponsored by the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs – University of Michigan (www.mesa.umich.edu) from June 26-28, 2010 in Detroit, MI. This year’s Conference follows the U.S. Social Forum (www.ussf2010.org) and Allied Media Conference (www.alliedmediaconference.org) all focused on strengthening communities locally and around the United States and beyond.
In partnership with Shameless Plug Events and Fusicology.com, the conference will be headlined by rising Hip Hop superstar Jay Electronica and Detroit’s own Slum Village who will perform at the legendary St. Andrews Hall on the evening of Saturday, June 26th. Other artists performing include Guilty Simpson, OneBeLo and 5ELA. The Hip Hop Congress (HHC) National Conference will bring together a diverse group of individuals encouraging participants to educate themselves on issues, organize action, and recognize how hip hop can be used to create
positive change. The goal of this year’s summit is to connect those interested in Hip Hop with education, social justice and community action.
Activities will include concerts featuring renowned Hip Hop artists as well as workshops, panels and discussion on prominent issues related to Hip Hop activism and social justice. Scheduled workshop guests include Rosa Clemente, Bakari Kitwana, OneBeLo and more.
The Conference will be attended by interested parties from throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, South Africa, Brazil and more. HHC is an organization run by active young people who understand the societal pressures of today’s youth. We use Hip Hop to inspire social and civic action and stimulate individual creativity. Since its inception, HHC has expanded around the world, strengthening youth culture and creating powerful connections across our globe. Hip Hop Congress advocates a vision of Hip Hop culture broader than the stereotypes often seen on TV and Radio. Hip Hop Congress (HHC) provides the Hip Hop Generation and the Post Hip Hop
Generation with the tools, resources and opportunities to make social, economic and political change on a local, regional, national and international level.
