PARENTS OF A NEW SCHOOL:
Hip Hop Congress is proud to announce the roll-out of a new program that will educate parents and adults about the culture and elements of Hip Hop in an effort to dispel common myths, rumors and misunderstandings between parents and their children about the music and culture that is so prevalent in our society. The program will begin in the Bay Area very shortly. For more information on this groundbreaking project, please contact Elgrie Hurd, III at doctorhurd@yahoo.com.
USC:
What up?! Seven weeks into the semester and five emails later…brought to you by the good folks at Hip-Hop Congress here at the University of Southern California. I know everyone is steadily preparing for midterms. If not, you’re already in the thick of things. This week we got a triple threat for everyone. First, we’ll be watching “The Freshest Kids: A History of the B-Boy,” a comprehensive breaking video with Over two hours of hardcore breaking, giving you an all-access pass to the underground world of B-Boys spanning the last 25+ years. Secondly, we’ll be peeping the latest LP by Bay area hip-hop group Blackalicious entitled “The Craft.” And as if it couldn’t get any better. We’ll also be peeping the latest release by one of the most dynamic lyricists of the west coast. That’s right, Ras Kass - with his latest offering, “Institutionalized.” We’ll also be checking out an article that appeared on DaveyD.com entitled “Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney Crafting Legislation To Open Government Files On Tupac Shakur.” Till the next update. Holla back. Respect. HHC.

WILLAMETTE in OREGON:
We have collected the money for the hoodies, campus chair Austin Buell has ordered 25 for now. Designs need to be finalized and sent to the silk screener.
Funding! After having to defend the HHC budget allocation, $4050, things are moving forward. There was a huge uproar over a new club obtaining so much funding, but after 2 plus hours of senate deliberations the funding recommendation passed. We now have plenty of money.
Space, we are having a huge issue obtaining the desired spaces we need for our events. We may end up now doing the 10/14 dance party, as it might be postponed until a location can be confirmed. Not a huge deal, but we have to work to discuss at the Thursday Exec lunch.
Awareness show, is still scheduled for 11/11 with the headliner being Neema/Unexpected Arrival, he’s an MC from Sea-town, should be banging. As for where that is to be held, we are negotiating with the university to reserve a certain venue, since our first choice is not available that weekend.
Film Festival- We were thinking of doing this in conjunction with the AF, but if space is an issue, we will schedule it separately. We did get funded $500 for it, and we already have the Director Opio lined up to come to campus, maybe we can get some more??
Peace for now,
A

THE YOUNG AMERICANS PROJECT:
For three months this fall, The Young Americans Project is traversing the country in an RV, stopping along the way in cities, suburbs, and small towns to profile intriguing peers. There are four of us - Ben, Adam, Matt, and Wigs. We’re writing a book, taking photographs, making a documentary, and posting updates on a website (this website, actually). The focus is on the way young people view their world and what their hopes are for America, for their community, and for themselves.
The Young Americans Project seeks to provide a voice for our generation. America wants to know who its young citizens are, what they desire, and how they will shape our nation’s future. There are many questions that need answers. How will unlimited and readily available information change the way we view the world? Are we plagued by a sense of entitlement? Do we have the desire and tools to lead America into the future? Who are the innovators, the leaders, the role players? Where is the idealism? How will we respond to the globalization that has brought terrorism and unprecedented competition to our doorsteps?
‘We believe this project has the potential to impassion and bring together members of our generation and stimulate valuable discussions about the future of young Americans at a time when there is a great deal of misunderstanding and opportunity in our rapidly evolving world.’
Follow there journey, suggest a profile, or find out more about them here: www.tyap.com
Peace and Love,
