SACRAMENTO
What’s the thizzness? Givin ya’ll weoplez the update live from Macramento. Lady Vex threw a Poetry Slam called “Spit” yesterday with cash prizes of $150 for first, $75 for 2nd, and $50 for third. Some cat named Random Thoughts came off with 1st place cash prize throwing down perfect scores by the judges on his piece on what if America was Iraq. Random Thoughts was kickin some political spit at the crowd. The event was pretty successful with Mynd Clothing and Writer’s Block Teez tryin to hustle some merchandise. The event was hosted by Miss Ashleigh and DJ Vanglorious holdin it down on the onez and twoz. yadadamean. but the turnout was pretty good for a rainy day and Sac-town’s HHC definitely held it down at the Infusion Cafe. til next week. payce.
WASH U
We were denied funding to bring in Upski, even though everyone said that it sounded like he would be an awesome speaker. We are seeking out alternate funding and would appreciate input from other chapters. Our artist showcase is starting to be planned. We will have 3 WU bands performing along side 4 STL acts. Local artists include F-5’s DJ Crucial, Family Affair, and Gotta Be Karim. We are also getting involved in some AIDS awareness festivals, more to come on that as it develops. Tune in to HHC radio STL Sundays from 11-midnight central @ kwur.com

Sorry for the lack of updates the past couple of weeks, we’ve just been really busy making the final preparations for our Hip Hop Appreciation Week.
This past week we’ve been getting everything together, flyers were finally made and we started distributing them throughout campus and the residence halls. Our mixtape is in it’s final stages of completion and we plan on distributing them as soon as possible and use it to promote our week long festivities. Also, I just e-mailed Jordan to invite him as well as you to our events. The dates are from February 20-23 and the times vary: Tuesday - 12pm-1pm Crown City Rockers, Wednesday - 7pm-9pm Panel Discussion, Thursday - 12pm-1pm Beat Junkies & 6pm-9pm Emcee and Bboy Competitions, and Friday - 8pm-11pm Ghostface and The Grouch and Zion I. Feel free to come to any and all, just need a heads up on who’s coming and the amount of tickets needed. It would be good to see you guys there. Other than that nothing else is going on. This week we will continue promoting and well as finalize our agreements with sponsors and pick up any giveaways they will send us. Thanks.

CAL STATE FULLERTON
We will be having our first general meeting on Monday, February 12th at 4pm in the Titan Student Union’s President’s Room. We will be discussing Hip Hop Congress, the specific goals of our chapter, and this semester’s events, which includes our March 31st mega event which has yet to be named. Fortunately, we have confirmed our opener, as well as our 2 headliners, and we were approved for funding by our university. The core is very ecstatic about this and is working hard to make this event happen! Expect a flier/press release/email/etc. announcing this event soon!
CONCORDIA COLLEGE
We are in the final push for the upcoming Minnesota Summit from Feb. 16-18. Promotions are in full swing and the word is getting out. We’re really hoping to have a great turn out. Peace…Amer

LINK OF THE WEEK
http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughtsonmusic/
This link is to the open letter Steve Jobs of Apple released concerning DRM protection and how he feels it should be omitted from all future MP3s sold. For those who don’t know as part of the agreement to sell MP3s, each online store has to copy protect the ‘Big 4′’s music. Different MP3 players could only play certain protected MP3s etc. So for example on itunes you could only play their MP3s on ipods. The industry has been split concerning this development with EMI already looking into getting rid of DRM and Warner is completely denying to even touch the subject.
Oh yeah for all you college students go to www.ruckus.com and download everything for free. Its a subscription based MP3 store but they just removed all fees for college students. Go download the DJ Crucial CD ‘Test Presses and Dub Plates’ (shameless plug). Theres also music from other HHC related artists on there too.
