CSULA:
What’s happening? I’ve been lagging but here is an update of what’s going on here at CSULA. We are gearing up for our quarterly event Bring Your Skills. It will take place on Feb. 25, 2005 and will include an open mic format as well as live performances by Las Vegas’s The Living Mechanizm and Torrance’s L. Scatterbrain. DJ Wally sparx and crew will be providing the grooves for the night and there is an open invitation to all surrounding So Cal Chapters to attend. I will send out the flyer with more info and directions next week. Lates…

UC IRVINE:
UCI has been making steady progress with the film festival. We’re working out the details right now, and should having everything set by the end of this week. The next step is promotion- we are going to hit our campus HARD with fliers, posters, and word of mouth until the date of the screenings.
In the next few weeks, we’re looking forward to the next southern California chapterhead meet-up, which is now going to be a monthly staple. We have several ideas that we’re collaborating on, all of which should come to fruition in the next few months.

WASH U:
What up world,
Wash U HHC is excited to have Brother Ali coming perform on February 25th. We are trying to get some money to bus in Vashon High School HHC students to see Saul Williams speak on campus as well. We have control of the radio station on campus and will be making good use of that.
Peace
Yoni
USC:
What up from Hip Hop Congress! Believe dat. First off, apologizes are in order. There was no meeting last week as HHC is still trying to work out logistics with Taper Hall and the Student Union. Meetings are on hold right now. There will be no weekly meeting tomorrow, Feb. 2. We’re hoping to be in Taper Hall next week, Feb. 9. Also, our ever-so-popular and most amazing Freestyle Fridays were delayed due to some scheduling problems, but they will kick off in front of Tommy Trojan next week. The freestyle sessions that have gone on for over a year now have become legendary on campus.
We’re in the process of planning two on-campus concerts. One being an emcee showcase and another being a b-boy battle or showcase of some sort. Also, HHC is in talks right now with the Scratch Academy here in LA to plan on taking a field trip one day this semester to the academy and get a group lesson. Ultra dope!
Holla back…
VASHON HIGH SCHOOL:
Congratulations to the first ever, newly elected, Vashon High School Chapter Board. They are:
President: Bobbie Lawson (Young Bob) (runner up of HHC National’s Emcee Olympics)
Fundraising/Hustler: Chae Foster (Only female member of our group)
Membership VP: Shawn Perkins (Biff) (participant in Emcee Olympics)
Mixtape Liason: Shannen Bolden
Advertising: Mark Willis (Rico)
That Guy: Joseph Pembleton (member of #1 H.S. basketball team in the country)
Congrats to the new board. Look for big things coming with our mixtape. Thanks to Jason and DJ Trackstar for organizing the project.
That’s it. It’s sunny, warm and beautiful in St. Louis. What the hell am I doing stuck in this “Educating with Computers” class? Me, fourteen 50 year-old ladies, and Microsoft Excel. Can it get any better?
Peace and Love,
Ron Gubitz
