Big thanks to everyone who attended our DJ workshop with DJs frank(e) and Samurai. It was another informative and successful workshop. Also, thanks for those who came out to All Your Bass Are Belong to Us on Thursday. It’s great to be out in the quad to bring good tunes and good times for good peoples! Promotions are underway for our Saturday, March 31st event “CSUF HHC presents…” featuring People Under the Stairs, Giant Panda, and Gio. We will be having an informational meeting on Monday, March 12th in the TSU President’s Room at 4pm. We will be going over event logistics, as well as assembling a team for the day of the event. Peace.

UC IRVINE
Man, two shows in two weeks…how did we pull that shit off?!?!? Lots of help from the real homies that’s how. Last week (3/1) was Blackalicious and Pete Rock with ASUCI (student government) and this recent week,(3/8) just had Zion I & the Grouch with DJ Jazzy Jay.Blackalicious went alright, 2200 kids in a gym with bad sound with HHC dj’s keeping the party alive outside for the b-boys. By far…we KILLED it at the Zion I show….it really was a Take Over with the Afrikan Student Union, we will all post videos soon. I hope you all got the flier too…it was a good fun theme to have for a show. All the HHC heads that have been down from the start at Irvine, were all there for us holding it down strong. Man, if it weren’t for you guys, I wouldn’t have felt as safe with all those people in there. The Berry Terrace was packed to the max….kids all in there like sardines in a can or somethin’ hahahha, people were sweaty, drunk, high and some got super pissed off at us. Some wack ass “lyricists” jumped on stage and tried to freestyle but they were shut down by Rahman…with some clever lines that got them booed off-stage quick. Thanks Rah, for making that trek down from the Bay for us…but HHC family is real
family, I’ve realized.

That’s also why…I’ve decided to keep UCI HHC low key from now on…the Zion I show was damn good, but there were a lot of posers out who wanted to start shit and had their own perception of what Hip Hop should be like…and we’re not into that here. Our main goal this year was to collaborate with the other student orgs at school, bring good music that hip hop is based around, and generate new membership. So far…we’ve been collaborating and that has been amazing because the American Indian Student Association and Afrikan Student Union are all behind us now….we never really had support from other clubs before so this is great. Also, even though working with student government really sucks, now we have access to all their supplies and money. I have formed the right connections to make Hip Hop Congress indestructible at Irvine next year…people are feening for us here. They want us to be a part of their events now…and the best thing is…we can say NO if we want to. I know there have been lots of politics involved….are we selling out by throwing a 50 grand show? But when we have no membership at school and the first show of the year has a turnout of 70 people…we have to be visible to the student population. I was hearing “hhc is dead” all at the beginning of the year, and now…we’ve revived. I really feel that we have. So if anyone out there has any thoughts to share with me on this, please feel free…I’m open to any ideas and suggestions, but I feel like we’e been tackling this the right way. And all the frustration… well…it’s a part of the fun…we gotta deal with some negative people in life, so let’s just LET IT GO….ahhhhh….feels good to let it go….

Thank you to my HHC family…for being there, even when you’re not physically there. You are dope. and Thank you to Zion I…this is the 3rd time for HHC…and they keep it real.

Always,
HIP HOP CONGRESS LOVES YOU.
and anh loves you too…
peace!

WILLAMETTE
Not much new to say for the activities going on at Willamette, although this week on Thursday the 15th we have our first event of the semester with the Black and Brown Unity Tour dropping by to drop some knowledge on the campus. Should be an interesting event with the recent activities surrounding social justice on our campus and I can only hope apathy doesn’t stop people from showing up to the event itself. Hopefully next week I will be able to send in a successful report for the lecture.

peace

LINK OF THE WEEK
Link of the week is two fold first I want to give props to the many sites that ran our press release the last week or two. These places include Soundslam.com, Allhiphop.com, theindustrycosign.com, wordondastreetz.com, and a huge shout out to RB at thuglifearmy.com who spread the release around to several outlets including google news. Thanks to everyone for spreading the word.

The second is an article from the BBC on why artists don’t need major labels. Its not an easy read at times but fully useful.
