Weekly Update o3.26.o7

March 26th, 2007 · No Comments · IU Bloomington, Chicago, Ron Gubitz, National Board, Women's Project, National Organization, Jordan Bromley

Short update this week. With more spring breaks happening I figured I would focus on some of our Board Members (and Chicago, but that comes from Asad who is a Board member)

WOMEN’S PROJECT
peace, y’all…continuing to build on the network front of women in Hip Hop – emailing and meeting with people. i saw an amazing film called Counting Headz: South Afrika’s Sistaz in Hip Hop. i met the director and exchanged info. if anyone’s interested in showing this film at their school/in their community, hit me up. i sent out an info memo/update to the 40+ members of the women in Hip Hop listing i’m working on compiling. if you’d like to receive a copy of it, connect with me at sarah@hiphopcongress.com. it outlines the new mission and goals, future ideas (newsletter, website, conference, leadership training), and ways to get involved. i’m going to be getting in touch with the chapter heads over the next few weeks to check in about the Women’s Project. also – check out femalehiphop.net. we’ve got a posting there and i’ve already gotten some emails from people who saw it and want to connect. keep doing what ya do…peace n blessins

CHICAGO
This past weekend, Hip Hop Congress members along with the F.E.W (Fifth Element Warriors) participated in the Idealist Campus Conference (www.idealist.org). F.E.W held down the opening ceremony with D-Nic as a host and Man-O-Wax as the DJ. The rest of F.E.W jumped in later for a special 20 minute set combining DJing, MCing, and Breakin’. The show went so well that we ended up raising $300 to help bring a rep from the Nigeria chapter to this year’s conference.

HHC repped the next day, with Asad holding a fresh workshop on Art and Social Change, which was attended by about 50 participants. The workshop was followed by an open mic, once again hosted by D Nic, and a breakin workshop/cypher led by none other than Super InLight! HHC/FEW were definitely the talk of the entire conference…. you know how we do!

GUBITZ WRITE UP
Our very own founder and tuba lover Ron Gubitz had an incredible write up in the Indiana University Alumni Magazine. It covered everything from his Teach For America gig to Hip Hop Congress involvement. There is no link directly to the article but you can d/l it in all its glory (and in pdf form) from this link http://senduit.com/99d04a. This link only lasts a week then you have to email me or Ron to get it re-up’d.

JORDAN WRITES GOOD
Speaking of writes ups another founder, Jordan Bromley, had an article published on Billboard! Its about things lawyers can do to help develop artists. But just because its directed toward lawyers does not mean there isn’t worthy info that can help any manager or artist. So check it out at

There is not one mention of chasing an ambulance! Talk to you all next week!
