TEXAS STATE:
This week we are getting ready for the First Annual Hip Hop Congress Exchange on April 2nd! 1st Annual Hip-Hop TRiO Student X-Change on April 2, 2005, in association with Multicultural Student Affairs. The 1st Annual Hip-Hop TRiO Student X-Change is a new event which hopes to establish a common ground where 100-150 disenfranchised adolescent students can learn and discuss the importance of education and identify higher education as a means to eliminate barriers to problems associated with socio-economic status and cultural diversity.
The TRiO Programs (Educational Talent Search, Rural Talent Search, and Upward Bound) are nationally recognized programs designed to identify students with the potential to succeed in higher education by providing them with material on and assistance with college applications, scholarship searches, and various financial aid programs.
Also Monday April 4th we are going to have a fun-raiser at one of our local restaurants were we will receive 20% of then proceeds.
VASHON HIGH SCHOOL:
How you censor an album will determine how it will sell. But what you censor might help drown you. That was the week’s most highlighted topic we had in the Vashon Chapter of Hip Hop Congress. The whole chapter sat down and debated whether censoring our songs will sell the album. In conclusion we came to the agreement, (again!!) and decided not to use cursing or the often used “n-bomb” that is used all the time in the rap industry.
We also came together and listened to a fist full of songs that are debuting on the album. Everyone had obtained the idea for each song and presented their concepts. Me personally, I heard two songs that could definitely hit the radio and bring more publicity to the nationwide Congress.
Last week we learned the meaning of propaganda. This week we begin learning how censorship affects the rap game.

THE JACK ARTIST
HHC artist The Jacka has released his second album, The Jack Artist. It has national distribution and should be in Towers, Best Buys and Sam Goody’s across the country. Check him out here: www.thejacka.com. It is a little more street oriented than you may be accustomed to, but the Jacka is going to do a lot to help our streets. In his own words:
“Not only am I talking about certain things that people are living and going through everyday but I’m speaking on ways they can change. So it isn’t like I am leading them into the fire. You got to really be…they say “a wolf in sheep’s clothing”; you got to be “a sheep in wolves clothing” in order to talk to people from the streets. You got to be them…you got to live just like them and let them see another side of you so they’ll know that ain’t the only thing that you do. I mean you may not change everybody but a few people will.”
The music is dope and he’s starting to get a great buzz. Check him out and pick up a copy!
