FROM THE TEMPLE OF HIP HOP:
HAPPY HIP HOP APPRECIATION WEEK MAY 15th-22nd

(H.H.A.W.). Since 1998 the third week in May has become a time to reflect upon our roles as citizens of the international Hip Hop community and to recommit ourselves to Hip Hop’s core principles of peace, love, unity and safely having fun!

In the past we’ve reflected upon such themes as; Faith (2005), Freedom (2004), Forgiveness (2003), Charity (2002) and Peace (2001). This year (2006) our theme is “ACTION”. And with all of our themes “Action” shall be the focus of our lectures, writings and events for 2006. We are urging ALL Hiphoppas to consider their actions as well as their inaction. Consider how your actions and/or inaction may be affecting others. Consider the results of your past actions and seek ways to improve or lessen such “actions” in the future.

Be active! Walk more. Exercise more. Speak out more! Think more! But also remember that “inaction” is indeed an action as well. Silence is also an activity. Rest and stillness are also activities. Fasting from food, sex, gossip, war, drugs and the needless spending of money are also “actions”. The point is to be conscious of your “actions” this year.

RON GUBITZ FEATURED IN COMMERCIAL:
Co-Founder Ron Gubitz was filmed four years ago in Boulder, Colorado talking about the need for alternative energy sources. BP Amoco just decided to use the footage. So if you see a guy with really long curly hair sporting a grey Teach For America shirt talking about “watching what we put in our cars like we watch what we put in our bodies” then you have seen it. The commercial is playing on CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, Bravo, and a few ESPN sightings. If you want a copy of the commercial, hit ron@hiphopcongress.com

Peace and Love,
Ron Gubitz

“It’s a genocide a huge homicide. Janjaweeds got da Christians petrified. Meet me at Darfur, Sudan, cuz its going down. Da US needs to drop some bombs to calm em down. Unnecessary killin ya brother in your face. Raping yo moms, dis place ain’t safe. Taking yo home, got you living alone, cuz them boyz put some shells to your family’s domes. Now you sick, and starvin. I beg your pardon. They need help! we gotta do something. Now you gotta sleep in Chad, next to a man named Chad, thinking about all the good times you had. Wit yo kinfolk, now dats just all in ya memories. Crying while reminiscing. US let’s makes a difference. Cuz they sleeping in camps wit no food or shelter. Its a way that we can make this betta. The Janjaweed’s got them scared to death, cuz at any time they can come over to Chad at put them to death. It just all makes no sense. America come on, and put an end to this nonsense” —Young Hoodlum
