HELP HURRICANE VICTIMS:
If members of the Hip Hop Congress have avenues or ways for the Hip Hop Congress to get involved in helping victims of the Hurricane, please email hurricane@hiphopcongress.com.

This comes to us from a friend:
All,
I have not spoken to some of you in a very long while, and others of you I don’t know very well, but I feel the situation in my hometown warrants this mass email. Since I may be your only contact to New Orleans, I feel it is my responsibility to lead the effort of noticing you to exactly what is going on there.

Please be aware of the severity of the flooding in New Orleans. The water really has nowhere to go, and people are being told they can’t return to their homes for a month. To make things worse, communication lines are disrupted, creating a chaotic atmosphere where many of us don’t know the status of our loved ones.

I am so far away, but I determined last night that I had to do my part to help. That’s why I’m sending you this email. The first thing I need to do is get the word out to so many of you all over the country so that you’re seeing and hearing the same things as the people closest to the matter.

Please click on the link below to access the weblog I created this morning. I have started the blog with a description of the events since yesterday morning and a call to action to begin the recovery process. I ask you to provide your insight and ideas to help the fundraising efforts. Please add any commentary to the website itself. Those of you from New Orleans who are displaced can add your own stories to the website so that those on the outside can get a personal glimpse into this crisis. You will also notice links to disaster relief agencies on this website for those of you who wish to send monetary support as well as links to the local news coming out of New Orleans. I will check and update this website daily as conditions are constantly changing.

I really don’t know what will come out of this effort, but I’m optimistic we can make a difference.

We are all in this together. Thanks for your time.

SAN JOSE STATE UNIVERSITY:
We just got done tabling today since we’re back in school for the Fall semester by hollering at mad peops about our club. We passed out fliers with our mission statement, displayed our blackbook for people to view, and flossed our brand spankin’ new banner. aite ya’ll holla at you next week, payce.

USC:
What up?! Welcome back Everybody. University of Southern California is entering it’s second week of classes. We at Hip-Hop Congress hope everyone is enjoying school and getting back into the swing of things.

Over 60 people stopped by the HHC table at the USC Involvement Fair last week and signed on. So we’re expecting a huge turnout for events this semester.

We’ve got a grip of events going on this semester that are sure to to peak your interest. Aiight?! We’re trying to put together a number of workshops with LA-based artists. We’re trying to get Justin Bua back on campus to give us a talk. There is a possibility that the people over at Project Blowed will stop by HHC @ USC. And maybe we’ll even get the Scratch Academy to come do a demo for us right on campus. This is gettin’ serious!

And for all those that want to see the ultimate of all ultimate battles, we’re in the preliminary stages of setting up a battle between our cross-town rivals, UCLA, to be hosted right in front of Tommy Trojan the day before the biggest football game in the Pac-10 conference (USC vs. UCLA). But at ‘SC, we’re kinda biased - the biggest game of he season for us will be the Rose Bowl and the crowning of that three-peat (now we’re just be arrogant).

HHC just sent out its first email of the semester to all members here at ‘SC. Our meetings are going to be bi-weekly this semester - which gives us a total of eight meetings. Heads got a chance to read up this week on “Breaking News: Suge Knight Shot in Miami” By Houston Williams and Nolan Strong, on our email sent out.

Till the next update.
Holla back.
Respect.
Zachary Franklin
