HHC AND HHA LINK UP:
The Hip Hop Congress and the Hip-Hop Association are presently creating a collection that will include lesson plans, curricula, and other teaching tools from educators in the U.S. and abroad. This collection will be made available to members of the community in the form of an electronic database and printed guidebook.

With over 500 educators between both organizations teaching at various schools, colleges, and universities across the country, this relationship will provide credible opportunities to test, evaluate and present irrefutable data. This data will be used to demonstrate to policymakers, funders and educational institutions the power of utilizing Hip-Hop as an educational tool.

In addition, Hip Hop Congress has joined the Hip-Hop Association’s 2006 H2Ed Summer Academy as a co-sponsor. The academy is a weeklong evaluation program where educators and youth practice a variety of methods to use of Hip-Hop in the classroom.

WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY:
We have moved in a positive direction with our school financing, it looks like we will be getting adequate ASWU block grants to put on the Awareness Festival on 11/11, and also for the Elements Show in February. We are in the process of contacting similar student clubs at U of O, OSU Portland State, and other colleges to let them know about the November show. We are organizing a freestyle battle contest with entry fees and winner take all. DJ spin off, Break dancing contests, and we are going to obtain a large canvas for some graf artists to do their thing on. So more or less we are going to sponsor a show that showcases many of Oregon’s top talents, maybe even get some Seattle boys to roll down, and Bay area fools to roll out. Shit, we are even trying to get a barber shop in the festival so that a brotha can get his hair did in Salem.

Dance parties! We have the Den Scheduled for 10/18 and 12/9 so that we can get some DJ’s in to spin for the local FM 95.5. I am not a big fan really, but we have an in at the station and can get some good cross promotion from it. Some of us are trying to get the DJ’s to come down from KBOO, the Independent station to spin instead, we’ll see.

Next Monday we are ordering our blank hoodies to get them customized for the chapter. We have a graf artist who also does silk screening work and we can get each hoodie for about $25 completed. I am contacting other sources of financing to hope fully by a larger amount of these Hoodies so that we can use them for promotions and fund raising.

The film festival is still in the works. Our Events Chair, Tristan Lochart, is contacting Director Byron Hurt to come down to Willamette and headline a film festival we are trying to put together..

That is the week in a nut shell. Oh yeah, did I mention a ton of gdamn homework?

peace,
A

LORAS:
We have been busy getting the year to kick off. We had our first house party which was a success. We had a lot of freshman come and even more people that are interested in our organization. We had another full meeting to discuss our next open mic night and our fundraiser for the semester. Dance practice and poetry meetings will begin this week. We will be participating in the homecoming pep rally, once again and we are planning a show for the end of this semester. We are planning a lot of fun trips, and are excited about the response we have received from the Loras campus so far this year. We are already being asked to participate in events for next semester. Until next time, Allison Evans

OHIO UNIVERSITY:
We just had our first meeting of the year on Wednesday and luckily a lot of new cats came out and really sounded like they want to get involved. Saturday we had our a HHC BBQ, We had a DJ and some emcees performing on the front lawn, which attracted a lot of people to stop by and see what was going on. Our first big event is going to be on Oct. 15th. We are having a B-boy battle and Crazy Legs is coming out to judge it. It will be $1000 grand prize, $500 for second so if you know any b-boys/b-girls that want to battle hit me up. We are also going to take Crazy Legs to a local elementary school the day before to put on a b-boy workshop. It’ll be hot.

Peace,
Tommy

-Yesterday’s congress meeting saw some 20+ attendees! It was unreal! People came loaded with ideas and contributions.
-I think we found our new permanent meeting spot which is in the main lobby of the Health, Phys. Ed & Rec. Sports center (aka the hyper/HPER).
-Look for IU HHC on MySpace! Big up Ali who is now not only our resident French turntablist, but also our MySpace mod. Befriend us @ http://www.myspace.com/iuhhc
-Tonight is the first of three spoken word events we have coming up. Unfortunately our special guest, Queen Sheba, fell through for financial reasons.

USC:
What up?! Five weeks into the semester and four emails later. Brought to you by the good folks at Hip-HopCongress here at the University of Southern California. We’re hoping for a bit of luck at this week’s meeting. On Thursday, Sept. 22, battle emcee extraordinaire and Project Blowed and J.U.I.C.E. affiliate NoCanDo will be stopping by to help out in a freesyle/battle rhyme workshop. Should be crazy, ridiculous! This week we’ll also be looking at an article that appeared on www.allhiphop.com entitled “Little Brother: Not Shuckin’ & Jivin’ Part One” By Matt Barone. Till the next update. Holla back. Respect. HHC.

UC IRVINE:
UCI returned for the Fall quarter this past week, and we’ve been on campus promoting our club and talking to interested freshmen and transfer students. Tabling has been going well, and we are continuing to build a solid foundation for our future. We have a number of things planned for this quarter, and we have a lot of energy and resources to make things happen.

VASHON HIGH:
Our second week saw our group grow with new people. We listened to “Scapegoat” and wrote about what was wrong with this world. We also wrote lyrics for a $500 contest. It was a Stay Drug Free commercial. We will record it next week and enter it. Next week, G says we are gonna start looking at the history of hip hop.

Peace

“The trial transcript quotes Ms. Hayden as saying Murphy called her a snitch bitch “hoe.” A “hoe,” of course, is a tool used for weeding and gardening. We think the court reporter, unfamiliar with rap music (perhaps thankfully so), misunderstood Hayden’s response. We have taken the liberty of changing “hoe” to “ho,” a staple of rap music vernacular as, for example, when Ludacris raps “You doin’ ho activities with ho tendencies.” —From the case, US vs. Murphy 406 F.3d 857
