Gene got ahold of some dope ass Kanye promos: teddy bear late registration goodie school folders, our tent was up and bumpin hot HOT beats with resident djs wallysparx, likewise and click/synergy and we were really luring in these clueless freshmen to seeing what Hip Hop Congress is ALL ABOUT! we had a funny ass poster sayin: “George Bush Doesn’t Care About Hip Hop Congress” and everyone and their mom got it besides for some bush lovers..ehh haha, i guess our promotion for the club had a kanye west theme but it worked man! mad props to all the irvine heads that came out to support us and now we have a poppin! venue for our meetings every week…in crystal cove auditorium where the administration told us we could play our music as loud as we wanted without NO complaints. ohhhh it doesnt get any better than thisss.

USC:
What up?! Six weeks into the semester and four emails later…brought to you by the good folks at Hip-Hop Congress here at the University of Southern California. I know everyone is steadily preparing for midterms. If not, you’re already in the thick of things. Last week’s meeting at Tommy’s Place featuring battle emcee extraordinaire and Project Blowed and J.U.I.C.E. affiliate NoCanDo was off the hook - a mad crazy experience for all those that stopped by. Big ups! There is no meeting this week…but details to come in the next email about next week’s meeting. This week, HHC members will also get a chance to read an article that appeared on www.allhiphop.com entitled “Russell Simmons, Rev. Run Talk VH1 Hip-Hop Honors” By EbenGregory and Nolan Strong. Till the next update. Holla back. Respect. HHC.
CAL STATE FULLERTON:
Hello. We just finished our second meeting where we began our semester-long exploration of the History of Hiphop, starting with the four elements and how each got started. We’re also in the works for having another two-part event, like last semester’s Get Up to Get Down. Next week (Tuesday, October 4, 2005 @ 7pm in KHS-174), we will have special guest: DJ Mark Luv of the Universal Zulu Nation to school us on all things Hiphop. We’re gonna have us a grand ol’ time. - Trish (Co-chair)
HIP HOP CONGRESS RADIO:
Once again, another shameless plug from HHC Radio. Some of our guests the past two shows were Epsilon Project and Deux Process. Listen to us live every Tuesday at 9pm (PST) on http://www.titanradio.org. Peace!
WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY:
We have begun to get the money together for the Hoodies. The design is in, and we voted on it. Details of the design to follow later. Think straight HHC tag 4 inches tall across the chest, and this Wu-tang inspired WU-Chapter design on the back.
We hope to have the Hoodies back buy the 18th, fingers crossed! On the 18th we have the Den reserved and the sound on its way for the WU chapters first event. We are looking to pair up with the TIUA (Tokyo Institute of the US) kids and probably let Mazu spin for us. He has some skills and we do have some sick tables.
The Awareness festival is still scheduled for 11/11, many details for this to still be ironed out, hustled up, and worked out. What we do know is that we are about to get in contact with every campus within a 100 mile radius, and then all of the other heads who come along with, to let them know about the HHC at WU. And how we do…
Peace,
A
LORAS COLLEGE:
We are having our next open mic Wednesday. A lot of people have been asking about it and we are anticipating a big turn out. We had our semester fundraiser, but plan on another since most of our proceeds went to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. A student just joined our chapter that will be doing our flyers for our events. This is great for him since he is a graphic design major and great for the officers so we don’t have to worry about them. That is pretty much it right now. There is talk about getting a speaker in, or a poet, or other artist in this year. If you have any suggestions let us know and we will check you out.

Finally…i recently joined an Intercultural Diversity Consulting Group out of Minneapolis called One Ummah Consulting (www.oneummahconsulting.com). They do great work and it’s truly an honor to join them and i’m really excited about the opportunity.
Stay peace everyone and thank you all for all the great work that you’re doing to build this movement! You’re all part of the inspiration that helps me keep pushing forward and i hope that i contribute in whatever way i can to the work you’re doin’ as well…Together we’re doin’ it everyday the way it needs to happen for progression to occur…we need each other and serve as important reminders to keep this thing going because we have so much further to go still! Stay up y’all…

NYC REDBULL SHOWCASE:
About The Red Bull Artsehcro:
The Red Bull Artsehcro showcases sixty of the most progressive collegiate classical musicians performing the world premier of “Concerto for Turntable,” an original composition by DJ Radar and Raul Yanez written for the turntable as the solo instrument within an entire symphony orchestra. The piece features Radar’ and Yanez’s own scratch notation, a system that documents all of the scratching techniques that can be performed on a turntable and translates them into Western musical notation. “Concerto for Turntable” will mark the first time a turntable has ever played on Carnegie’s stage.
Any way you could help spread the word would be very much appreciated.
If you are able to give a posting/link, let me know and I’ll send over all the necessary bits and pieces. If you need any additional info just hit me up or check out the website: www.RedBullArtsehcro.com.
THE YOUNG AMERICANS PROJECT:
For three months this fall, The Young Americans Project is traversing the country in an RV, stopping along the way in cities, suburbs, and small towns to profile intriguing peers. There are four of us - Ben, Adam, Matt, and Wigs. We’re writing a book, taking photographs, making a documentary, and posting updates on a website (this website, actually). The focus is on the way young people view their world and what their hopes are for America, for their community, and for themselves.
The Young Americans Project seeks to provide a voice for our generation. America wants to know who its young citizens are, what they desire, and how they will shape our nation’s future. There are many questions that need answers. How will unlimited and readily available information change the way we view the world? Are we plagued by a sense of entitlement? Do we have the desire and tools to lead America into the future? Who are the innovators, the leaders, the role players? Where is the idealism? How will we respond to the globalization that has brought terrorism and unprecedented competition to our doorsteps?
‘We believe this project has the potential to impassion and bring together members of our generation and stimulate valuable discussions about the future of young Americans at a time when there is a great deal of misunderstanding and opportunity in our rapidly evolving world.’
Follow there journey, suggest a profile, or find out more about them here: www.tyap.com.
Peace and love,
Ron Gubitz
