Our Mission:

To Expand The Presence Of The Female Voice In The Culture and Industry of Hip Hop

Our Goals:

-To build a network of women who are involved in the culture and industry of Hip Hop.

- To empower women and girls through the development of knowledge of self (how one relates to Hip Hop), social gender roles, and community leadership skills.

- To support existing female Hip Hop organizations and collectives.

- To form coalitions with community-based and national organizations.

Accomplishments And Progress of ’07-08

* The Women in Hip Hop listing consists of around 50 women involved in Hip Hop (artists, organizers, managers, educators, journalists, etc) and another 30 who are not officially part of the listing.
* A Women in Hip Hop Resource List and Archive have been created consisting of websites, books, and Films.
* Efforts have been made to contact all chapterheads and regional directors to get information about the women in Hip Hop that they know.
* A list of questions for a productive dialogue on the issue around women in Hip Hop has been compiled and distributed.
* The beginning steps have been taken to compile, edit, and publish Sistas Speak: Letters From Women to Hip Hop in collaboration with Tachelle Wilkes of Femmixx.com.

*Disclaimer: The current director of the Women’s Project is resigning, so the Women’s Project is going through a transition stage and will possibly be changing its structure in some ways.
